Magglingen

Magglingen near Biel-Bienne is a place well known to athletes. The Federal Office for Sport (FOSPO) is located high above the lake of Biel on a natural terrace of the hills of the Jura mountains. The Swiss Federal Institute of Sports Magglingen (SFISM) is part of the FOSPO. The campus is located at an altitude of 900 metres above the bilingual town of Biel-Bienne in Magglingen. The premises of the university are in various buildings of an idyllic area between forests and pastures. Lectures, seminars and conferences are held in the Swiss Olympic House and the main university building, which was built in 1970 and completely renovated in 2010. Available for use are seminar rooms for 5-200 people in sizes of 23 to 225 m2 with all modern amenities. Standard equipment includes TV, projector, DVD, music system, overhead projector, flip chart, whiteboard and blackboard. Some rooms are fitted with infrastructure for simultaneous translation.

The in-house restaurant, Bella Vista, serves meals of the highest quality. Coffee breaks, an aperitif or a nightcap can be enjoyed in the bar/café of the Grand Hotel or in the bar of the Swiss Olympic House.

The City of Biel/Bienne

Biel/Bienne is a city on the language boundary between the French and German speaking parts of Switzerland and is throughout bilingual. The city lies at the foot of the first mountain range of the Jura mountains area on the north-eastern shores of Lake Biel.Biel/Bienne and Magglingen are internationally known as the capital of Swiss sports. Biel/Bienne, a lively, active metropolis in the Seeland region, is the heart of the Swiss watch industry and hosts a campus of the Bern University of Applied Sciences and on the hill in Magglingen: the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen.Biel/Bienne offers excellent access to the Swiss railway and freeway networks and is located 25 minutes by train from Bern. Four international airports can be reached from Biel/Bienne within just 90 minutes.
